The Theatre Arts Department of Highlands Junior School is a very traveled and busy drama department. Every year, students compete in several UIL competitions including Improv, Prose and Poetry bringing home a bus full of trophies and ribbons. Highlands Junior Students have won countless events over the years, garnering over $10,000 in scholarships and prizes.

Each year, the Theatre Arts Department performs a One Act play (competing in UIL) a major Broadway musical, complete with singing and dancing, and much, much more! The students in Theatre Arts receive opportunities to gain a glimpse of careers in the theatre through field trips to Sterling, Lee, Alley Theatre, Hobby Center for the Performing Arts and other venues in the Houston area. It is a department on the move and growing fast.

Directors (Robert Richard & Cody McAnally) believe in boosting any and all opportunities to learn as many of the aspects of performance as the students would like. If a student wants to learn lights and sound, they will learn it. If a student wants to act, they will perform. If a student wants to be on crew, they will teach it. Our department is rapidly growing, so come join us as we Learn, Grow, and Achieve!
